Torridon Residential March 12 - 15th 2010

A weekend introducing students to different parts of the taiji syllabus. The weekend will be made up of 4 x 3 hour sessions; Hand form basics, push hands, sword and qigong.

Sessions with be led by Douglas Hardie, John Grocott of the Silk Road School of Tai Chi, and Janis Gillies of Chanquanshu School of Daoist Arts.

These sessions will be ideal for beginners and those new to taijiquan. More experienced students will learn a lot too, I am sure.

Torridon Residential: 9 - 12 October 2009

What a great weekend! Everyone worked really hard, Chris did a great job teaching. The form work we did was something new for everyone there. I think Katherine may have had a point when she described the Wudang movements as “more G-sharp than the usual A flat minor of Yang Style Taijiquan.”

There is still a lot of work to be done though…

The next residential weekend will be on the dates above in October. Chris Thomas of Northern Schools Tai Chi Chuan, based in Cheshire, will be visiting and will be introducing students to a short Wudang form: The Eighteen Forms.

The Eighteen Forms Taijiquan is a new form that Master You has created
to introduce people across the world to Wudang Taijiquan.  Short and
easily learned it includes the essentials of the various forms and
elements of Wudang Taijiquan.  Students who have learned other Wudang
forms may find some elements similar, if not identical, to some already
learned.

Chris’ martial arts training started with Judo in 1968, then Karate (studied to
1st Dan) in 1971.  In 1972 he found Tai Chi and started training with
Danny Connor.  A year or two later he stopped teaching and brought Rose
Li to Manchester and Chris trained with her until about 1980.  Since then he
has been influenced by various teachers and trained in Chen style with
Michael Tse for 4 years.  In 2004 he met Master You Xuande, Headmaster of
Wudang Internal Boxing School, Head of the South Wudang Daoist Sect and
14th Generation Lineage holder after Zhang San-feng - to quote just a
few of his many titles/qualifications!  In 2008 Chris Thomas became Master You’s
disciple (inner door student.)

Chris has previously taught both Douglas Hardie and John Grocott.

Application Forms: e-mail Douglas for one. Deposits due by the end of August 09.

Students lucky enough to live on the west coast who wish to attend should check here.
